in an interview with the red bull music academy in 2011, jay-z's legendary personal engineer, young guru, shared the story of why hova decided to make the game shaping record, d.o.a. (death of autotune). jay & his camp, had very strong opinions on the type of music hip-hop artistes (including yeezy) were producing. after a hour long convo with guru, ye & timbaland, jay decided that "[we] can’t all fall into these trends and get lazy & all sound the same", & that he would be the one to steer hip hop "in the right direction".
i miss the days of "u don't know my name (alicia keys)" "next life time (erykah badu)" & "you got me (the roots)" etc, etc.
i feel as if we should slow it back down again; going back to soul. i mean, as much as i love heavy bass & heart pumping beats, its not all about no horse ridin' dance moves or neck breaking wobbles.
and with the help of my very good friend & fucking amazing singer/songwriter, vanessa fernandez (of octover)... i present you #gone.
